Abu Dhabi is an amazing city to discover, whatever it is for a short stopover or a long vacation. The sea, the desert, the culture, the luxury shopping malls… Here is my selection of 6 things to do to make your stay as memorable as possible.
This selection is based on a recent trip to UAE’s capital, and I experienced all of these places. Be prepared to use taxis or hotel limousines to travel the city, as public transportations are not as developed as they are in Dubai for instance.
1. Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque
The magnificent Sheikh Zayed Mosque is absolutely fantastic with its surrounding waters and green areas. Opened in 2007, it covers an area of more than 12 hectares with a shopping mall and plenty of dining places on the basement. I recommend to plan a half day there, and book a guide in advance. Entrance is free, you just have to register (do it online to avoid the queue).
2. Le Louvre Abu Dhabi
What a wonderful idea to connect France and Emirates with this beauty, this outstanding Louvre Abu Dhabi. Inaugurated in 2017, this large art and civilization museum takes collections from the original Louvre Paris. It particularly showcases pieces bridging Western to Eastern art and to be honest that’s my best museum experience lifetime. Entrance cost is 60 AED per person.
3. Ferrari World
The world famous Ferrari World is connected to Yas Mall, a huge luxury shopping mall on Yas Island. It’s a theme park, entirely dedicated to Ferrari: a museum, some shops, a restaurant, and of course thrilling rides. Formula Rossa is actually the world’s fastest roller coaster with a top speed of 240 km/h. Entrance fees are 295 AED per person.
4. Warner Bros. World
Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi is an indoor amusement park owned and developed by Miral Asset Management. It opened in 2018 and features characters from Warner Bros’s franchises, such as Looney Tunes and DC Comics. With more than 25 different rides for adults and kids, you can easily spend a full day there. Ticket price is 295 AED.
5. The Galleria Mall
It’s not a huge mall, but for sure The Galleria is the most luxurious mall in Abu Dhabi. All world’s major and niche brands are there, highlighting their most incredible pieces for a crowd of super top spenders. Go there and don’t be shy! The dining offer is rich with casual to Michelin-star places, and for all tastes: Italian, French, Arabian, Japanese food, etc.
6. Saadiyat Beach
With pristine white sands stretching along its shore, Saadiyat Beach has maintained a reputation as one of the most desirable beach locations in the UAE. From beach yoga classes to eco-friendly water sports activities such as windsurfing and sailing, guests can make the most out of their beach experience with the help of the attentive staff and the many leisure outlets.
