Do you have a week of vacation and want to make the most of it by doing a trip to Rome? We promise you will have a wonderful time, but you need to do some prior planning and choose a comfortable zone where to stay, widely connected to the main transportation and facilities and possibly not so distant from the city center.
When planning a trip to Rome, we recommend considering the best 4-star resort in Rome in the picturesque yet vivid zone of Trastevere… And for sure booking beforehand to choose the room you like most. When you’re done with the choice of your apartment, you should carefully plan your journey to cover the city’s main attractions. We’ve thought we can help you with this!
Here’s how to best plan your journey in our opinion to make the most of your time in the città aeterna.
Day 1
Start your adventure with a visit to the Colosseum which is rightfully considered a symbol of Rome.
Built in AD 70-80, the Colosseum is a vast amphitheater where up to 80,000 people could have watched gladiator battles, animal hunts, and other public events. Now it is a must-see landmark for anybody visiting Rome because of its symbolism, other than its magnificent exterior.
After the Colosseum, see the Roman Forum to explore its ancient ruins and archaeological wonders. If you’d like to learn more about the historical meaning of this location, think about taking a guided tour, we’re sure you will be amazed about it.
Day 2
On the next day, go and see the Piazza Venezia known above all for the Altar of the Fatherland (also known as the Monumento Nazionale a Vittorio Emanuele II). Constructed in honor of Italy’s first king, this massive white marble monument offers terraces with magnificent views of Rome’s skyline.
Climb to the rooftop for amazing city views to see the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, and the Palatine Hill.
Day 3
Explore the magnificent Centro Storico of Rome. See the famous Spanish Steps, a majestic staircase decorated with flowers and crowned by the Trinità dei Monti Church. Then, enjoy the panoramic views of the famous Piazza di Spagna, where locals and tourists gather to relax and people-watch.
Thereafter, get to the fantastic Trevi Fountain and join the tradition of throwing a coin there to ensure your return to Rome. Next, make your way to the Pantheon, one of the best-preserved buildings from ancient times.
Day 4
The smallest country in the world is geographically located in Rome, so take your time to get to know more about it. As you have already guessed, we are talking about the Vatican City.
Start by taking a guided tour of the Sistine Chapel and then head to St. Peter’s Basilica to see its beauty and Italian historic symbolism. Take advantage of the opportunity to go to the Dome and admire the panoramic views of the city from the upside.
Day 5
On the fifth day, we would recommend you to go see the stunning Amalfi Coast and the nearby site of Pompeii. When Mount Vesuvius erupted in AD 79, Pompeii was brutally buried, managing to maintain an amazing state of preservation for generations, which you now may contemplate by visiting this surreal place.
It is currently one of the most illustrious archeological cities in the world. Both Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. A must-see during a trip to Rome.
Day 6
Explore one of Rome’s biggest and most famous parks, Villa Borghese. Visit the Borghese Gallery there to view its magnificent collection of paintings, sculptures, and antiques of some of the most significant artists history has ever known as Caravaggio, Canova, Bernini, and Raphael, among other illustrious names.
Then, see the gardens, fountains, and temples while taking a bike ride or stroll around the park. Bicycles, row- and pedal boats are available for rent so that visitors can explore the park’s lakes and pathways. Playgrounds, picnic spots, tennis courts, and jogging routes are also available there. Other cultural locations that you will find there, apart from the Borghese Gallery, are also the Bioparco di Roma (Zoo of Rome), the National Gallery of Modern Art (Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna), and the Carlo Bilotti Museum (Museo Carlo Bilotti), which exhibits modern and contemporary art.
Day 7
We are sure that by this day you may have tasted delicious Italian food, but the gastronomic tour on the weekend, when the major locations are crowded by other tourists, might be the perfect choice. Start your day at a neighborhood cafe with a traditional Italian breakfast of coffee and cornetto, and for lunch, indulge in traditional Roman delicacies like cacio e pepe or pasta carbonara at a family-run trattoria.
Try wood-fired pizza, fresh fish, or robust Roman delicacies accompanied by a bottle of wine while dining al fresco on a piazza in the evening. For a treat, don’t forget to enjoy gelato from a gelateria.
Buon appetito!
