Hong Kong is such a busy and crowded city that you have to find secluded places for making a break, a kind of cocoon where you can pamper yourself and just relax. I am going to highlight two great locations for luxury spa lovers, Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong Spa and Island Shangri-La Health Club.
Finding a luxury spa in Hong Kong is quite easy, however two are really making the differences for their quality and value for money. Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong Spa and Island Shangri-La Health Club are definitely worth it, both of them provide a wonderful experience to their customer through tailor-made treatments in opulent cases.
Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong Spa
Located in Central, the worldwide renown Mandarin Oriental proposes an unparallel level of luxury and its spa is no exception. Once arrived at the top of the building – 24th floor – you are greeted by a receptionist who will check your booking, then take your shoes and offer a welcome hot tea before asking to fill a form. By the way, one word about Mandarin Oriental staff: smile and sense of welcoming. The legendary service quality at MO hotels is definitely amazing.
The treatment we had was a 110-min Mandarin Oriental Signature Spa Therapies, which have been devised to address guests’ increasing desire for simple, effective and authentic spa experiences. Completely tailor-made through a discussion with the therapist about personal life at the beginning, it consists then of a relaxing, hands-on body massage ritual that combines the powerful effects of oriental meridian massage with the therapeutic benefits of custom-blended essential oils, created uniquely for Mandarin Oriental. The treatment itself and oils are tailored to each guest in order to leave the body, mind and spirit in perfect harmony. Guests are also provided with nutritional and exercise guidance, in order to extend the beneficial effects of the programme at home.
We enjoyed treatment in a Mandarin Suite which includes a sauna, steam room and a huge ceramic bathtub ; all those are available before treatment when booking a half-day package for two. Regarding changing room, each male/female area also offers sauna, steam room and whirlpool. Stunning!
Island Shangri-La Health Club
Pacific Place luxury mall hosts one of the most prestigious hotels in Hong Kong, among them the Island Shangri-La and its gorgeous Health Club. Spreading all over the 8th floor of the building, it includes a huge terrace with outdoor pool overlooking famous skycrapers – Bank of China, HSBC, etc. – as well as a fitness center with latest Technogym equipment, an indoor wet area for each male/female changing room with sauna, jaccuzzi, steam room and finally some massage & beauty treatment rooms.
We enjoyed a 150-min Hydrating and Relaxing Body Treatment consisting in a body scrub followed by a milk honey wrap – restoring balance and harmony to both very dry, dry, sensitive and oily complexions – and an aromatherapy massage, ending with and hydrating facial treatment. Two hours and half of pure relaxation, wellness and soothing apart from the world!
Even if we booked at a “peak” time during public holiday, the Health Club was not crowded so the staff could comfortably take care of us ; in addition, treatment rate is quite good for a luxury hotel’s spa in Central Hong Kong. All of these, together with the quality of therapists, make this place a great deal to rejuvenate your body and soul.
