I am a big fan of the luxury watchmaker Girard-Perregaux. A great heritage, a renowned manufacture and some iconic models. In this article I will highlight the Laureato Chronograph 42mm in 18kt rose gold, a recent model from 2018.
Located in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, Girard-Perregaux manufacture is one of the oldest, the most prestigious and respected Swiss watchmakers. Belonging today to Kering luxury group, it proposes some great collections such as Classic 1966, Vintage 1945 or Bridges.
A beautiful niche brand with classical models, for fine connoisseurs and watch lovers. These timeless pieces are the result of a perfect luxury execution at all levels: the product itself, the packaging (a high-end wooden box) and the customer service.
The Girard-Perregaux Laureato collection is pretty famous thanks to its iconic shape from 1975, similar to the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak or Patek Philippe Nautilus designed by Gérald Genta. Refined years after years, it offers a stunning integrated bracelet with an octogonal case. Some would consider it more a jewelry than a watch.
I am lucky enough to own a 18kt rose gold Chronograph version in 42mm with leather bracelet, a model first introduced at SIHH in 2018. The case is definitely large – I am more used to 40mm round format – and very heavy. I mean, thick and heavy! I particularly love the blue dial and the Clou de Paris hobnail pattern that gives a so-chic aspect with the rose gold. Let’s be honest, it catches the eye immediately when you wear it ; this is part of the magic.
Regarding technical specifications, this Girard-Perregaux Laureato wristwatch proposes a Swiss automatic Girard-Perregaux caliber GP03300 with 63 jewels, 28,800 vph and a power reserve of 46 hours. It features Côtes de Genève finishing, chamfering and straight graining. To be concrete, that’s a masterpiece.
