After reviewing many luxury hotels in London, it was time to focus on a special place. That’s why we decided to experiment the fancy-classy Rocco Forte Brown’s Hotel, an old lady with an impressive story.
Ideally located on Albemarle Street, in the heart of Mayfair, Rocco Forte Brown’s Hotel is an institution in London. It is actually the first ever hotel of the city – it opened its doors in 1837 – and through ages it became a five-star hotel reference. Since it’s also a perfect place for luxury shopping, we decided to stay there and use it as headquarter during the winter sales period ; definitely a great choice.
Living
Staying at Brown’s Hotel means feeling like home. Common areas are sized at human scale and you immediately feel pampered in a cosy-chic ambience thanks to British furnitures mixed with Rocco Forte design – by Olga Polizzi, Rocco Forte Director of Design – giving to overall spaces a great touch. From the hidden reception where we loved the Christmas tree realized by Lulu Guinness to the Spa fitness center and its upscale equipment, we were very impressed. Top of the top, for us, is definitely the English Tea Room located at ground floor ; probably one of the best place in London to enjoy a delicious afternoon tea!
Room
From what we saw during our tour onsite, all rooms look charming with their own layout and furnitures. We stayed in a lovely Junior Suite overlooking Dover Street and composed of a large sitting room/bedroom with a stunning Carrara marble bathroom. Design is more or less the same than any other Rocco Forte residence and premium furnitures give lot of character to the room ; this is actually why I love this hotel’s group, because all their rooms have a special luxury and cosy atmosphere you don’t find anywhere else.
Dining
We had only a continental breakfast at Brown’s Hotel, Hix Mayfair restaurant ; buffet is a bit tight so I would highly recommend to forecast a full English breakfast for your stay. Anyway, many fresh juices are available and food selection is really tasty ; one of the most delicious yogurt I ever had :) Dining room itself is just so British, I can easily imagine how amazing it should be to enjoy a five-course dinner there. Maybe next time..
Level of exigency
Brown’s Hotel is an old lady and its staff deserves it ; service was faultless and reached any other five-star hotel level. Doormen are friendly and recognize you after the first time passing through entrance, housekeeping is fast and invisible while waiters at Hix Mayfair restaurant are very proactive and efficient. Hey, what did you expect from such an institution?
Stay from January 2nd to 3rd, 2016 – Sponsorized media visit, but this article reflects 100% of my opinion and thoughts.
The legendary Rocco Forte Brown’s Hotel opened in 1837 and has its last refurbishment in 2005. It is today composed of 117 guestrooms and suites. We stayed in a Junior Suite – around 50sqm – which public rate starts at 1044 GBP/night.
