How to Spend a Luxury Weekend in Macau

How to Spend a Luxury Weekend in Macau

Macau is a fascinating island. One of China’s territories, it was colonized for some time by Portugal, which has left the island with a unique cultural heritage. That’s quite unlike anywhere else in the world! Fascinating blend of culinary and architectural cultures, Macau is also the gaming capital of this part of the world.

Anyone who loves Las Vegas should try out Macau for gaming with its variety of luxury casino resorts. If you’re looking for tips on where to eat, stay, or play, then we’ve got the inside scoop on everything you could want to know.

Visit the Venetian

First things first, when in Macau, you’ve got to take advantage of the entertainment facilities. Thankfully, there’s plenty of choice in Macau but one of our most recommended spots is the Venetian. This grand resort is a 3,000-suite palace, recreation the canals and architecture of Venice.

Whilst you could choose this as your accommodation instead of the Banyan Tree, we suggest making this your entertainment zone. The casino is not only absolutely enormous but also incredibly upscale, featuring a wide range of games. It offers classics like roulette and poker, as well as more specialists like keno, which you can check here: https://www.cafecasino.lv/casino/specialty/keno

So, if you’re an avid gamer then you’ll enjoy the extra attention that’s been put into creating a gaming experience unlike any other.

Stay at the Banyan Tree

There are a huge number of luxury resorts and hotels to stay at in Macau, but one of our personal favorites is the Banyan Tree. This 5-star resort offers cabanas for guests that look directly on to the pristine swimming pool. It allows to enjoy quality leisure time amongst friends, while still having an air of privacy.

The rooms are located in the imposing high-rise tower, affording guests incredible views of the city skyline and the ocean. If you’d rather stay in your own suite or villa then you can choose this option instead, whilst you will forego quite such panoramic views, you’ll be able to make use of your own plunge pool or private outdoor pool instead. This hotel has plenty of customizable options making it ideal for the discerning guest who wants to have great stay.

Lunch at Albergue 1601

Once you’re settled into your accommodation it’s time to sample some of the cuisine of the island. Albergue 1601 is a charming restaurant set in a colonial building that’s truly picture perfect. It’s one of the best preserved buildings on the island, having stood in its place since, as the name suggests, approximately 1601.

The St. Lazarus Quarter is a beautiful district to explore anyway, but this gem of Portuguese architecture is really special. Once you get inside you’ll start to notice the unique cultural blend that this building boasts, mixing European and Asian.

Menu seamlessly blends Portuguese dishes with Macanese cuisine, giving rise to an exciting menu including a richly spiced seafood and rice soup, delectable crispy pork and the typical Macanese dessert of serradura, or sawdust cake, though don’t be put off by the name, it’s sticky and sweet, not at all like its namesake.

Book a table in the courtyard, enjoying a lunch with a glass of wine in such beautiful surroundings is fantastic.

Dine at Clube Militar de Macau

Once you’ve enjoyed all that Albergue 1601 and the Venetian has to offer, it’s time for another snack and a touch of history. Built in 1870 the Clube Militar de Macau was originally a private military club. It’s been restored to keep the pink and white facade looking as pristine as the day it was first painted. Its also had a grand reopening as a restaurant instead, allowing people to visit and dine since 1995.

The club has grown in popularity since then, so booking is a must. The hustle and bustle of downtown Macau can be quite overwhelming but this building offers an air of serenity and tranquillity that is hard to emulate. Inside the wide plank floorboards are made from light teak and the dull hum of ceiling fans transports you right back to life in the colonial era.

There’s the option of a buffet, which far from being pre-heated and packaged is truly delicious. However, for MOP$500 you can enjoy the full degustation menu, which is a seriously special experience. If you really want to push the boat out then opt for wine pairing as well.
