The exclusive Valley Wing at Shangri-La Singapore

The exclusive Valley Wing at Shangri-La Singapore
As a former British colony, Singapore offers lot of five-star hotels with colonial architecture and design. Shangri-La Singapore is one of its heritage, especially the exclusive Valley Wing dedicated to high-end luxury travelers.

Among all wings available at Shangri-La Singapore, Valley Wing is definitely the most exclusive thanks to its own private entrance, driveway and atmosphere. Built with the purpose to create a hotel inside the hotel, the ambience – high-end luxury – is really different from the rest of the residence – much more family resort style – and guests can enjoy unique complimentary services there such as drinks at lobby, mini-bar and shoe-shine service in room, breakfast at the private Summit Room, etc. Well, I guess we could rename it VIP Wing :)

Shangri-La Singapore – Summit Room from Tower Wing bridge

As very first residence and flagship of the Group, Shangri-La Singapore has been originally designed in order to impress and offer large spaces to its guests. At Valley Wing, lobby is simply stunning with its high ceiling and majestic columns while gardens are extensive and allow direct access to the common outdoor pool area with plenty of sunloungers. Furnitures and materials are a bit more luxurious, finer than Garden Wing or Tower Wing in a classical style ; so chic.

It’s actually possible to live in Valley Wing staying apart from the rest of the resort if you don’t mind about the pool, fitness center or Chi Spa ; this is really the purpose of that sanctuary. I highly recommend to experiment the complimentary homemade cocktails and snacks at lobby, there is no comparison with some cheap “executive lounges” from other hospitality brands.

Shangri-La Singapore - Valley Wing Deluxe Room

Shangri-La Singapore – Valley Wing Deluxe Room

The Deluxe Room I had – the first category of Valley Wing’s rooms – was actually very large, a kind of junior suite, with huge dressing and bathroom ; could easily spend one week there without feeling tight or compacted. Regarding interior design, let’s make it clear: do not expect a modern or domotic-like design as you can expect in western Shangri-La residences ; Valley Wing wants to keep the colonial legacy of the old and renowned Shangri-La Singapore, so focus is much more on service than design. One tip: if you prefer to stay in a modern and connected room, you should definitely choose the recent Garden Wing!

Dining

I didn’t had a chance to taste Shangri-La Singapore lunch or dinner cuisine, but only their breakfast at Summit Room and it was very nice: a-la-carte hot dishes and continental buffet are available, as well as fruits, fresh yogurts and other paweet delicacies. So pleasant to enjoy a breakfast in that private restaurant, especially when travelling in couple, rather than other common places of that huge resort where you have sometimes to do the queue ; I imagine the feeling is the same for dinner.

Level of exigency

If there is something you don’t have to mind about when planning a stay in a Shangri-La hotel, it’s really the service quality and the level of exigency. At Valley Wing, it’s faultless: housekeeping is fast and efficient, concierge and doormen – in their magnificent uniform – are very friendly and proactive, same for bartenders. The expectations you can have for a five-star hotel will be all reached for sure, and even might go beyond.

Stay from September 11th to 13th, 2015 – Sponsorized media visit, but this article reflects 100% of my opinion and thoughts.

The Valley Wing in Shangri-La Singapore opened in 1985, represents the most exclusive part of the resort and is composed of 131 Room and Suites. We stayed in a Deluxe Room – around 57sqm – which public rate is 530SGD/night.

Wow the Valley Wing definitely looks so different from the Garden Wing rooms (where I stayed last year). I admire the doormen’s attire at the Shangri-la Singapore, considering how humid it is there. Now that’s dedication :)

Love The Shangri-La Singapore. I’ve stayed at both locations my favorite is this one off Orchard road for their amazing spa! It was the highlight of my stay. Super luxurious and so much pampering.
