Paris is an interesting place for fine travelers, they have a chance to experiment many kind of luxury: the pure French “chic” at Le Meurice, the art and design at The Raffles Royal Monceau or the contemporary Asian at Shangri-La Paris… And since May 2014 they can also stay in the most hipster hotel of the city, Molitor.
Located in the stylish 16th district of Paris, close to Rolland-Garros, this five-star place is based on 3 axes which form a motto : Pool, Art, Life. Pool, because at the origin in 1929 Molitor was a public swimming-pool with indoor and outdoor basins ; Art, because during a blackout period in 80s/90s, it becames a famous place for international underground and renown graffiti artists ; and Life, because now Molitor has definitely the ambition to be one of the most attractive and “moving” city spot thanks to an amazing renovation and the creation of an hotel.
Living
Maybe the best definition of Molitor is not “luxury hotel”, but “luxury resort”. Indeed, areas are super huge and activities very numerous: 46-meter outdoor pool with sunlounges, 33-meter indoor pool, tennis courts, 2500 sqm rooftop, a Spa by Clarins, … Everything is brand new, with many art pieces – the place has always been renowned for it – and the renovation designer, Jean-Philippe Nuel, made an unbelievable work of both respect of the past and breathe new life to Molitor. Definitely this hotel becomes the place to be and to be seen in Paris.
Regarding the Spa by Clarins, we experimented a 60-minute Grand Molitor Modelage massage which was super nice thanks to a very competent therapist who took care of our wishes and our needs. Then the Spa itself is amazing with its pure Parisian hipster style – French furnitures and original Molitor mural frescoes – and large treatment rooms. A must-do for couples : book one of the two 50 sqm private Spa suites with jacuzzi, hammam, sauna and massage tables for a day or half-day journey.
Room
We visited a Pool Suite which is very large – around 50sqm – with its private terrace and bathroom with bathtub and Clarins amenities. Jean-Philippe Nuel, head designer, arranged rooms to highlight the beauty of the Molitor keypoint: its outdoor pool. And it’s successful ! The beige and grey tones of the room allow perfectly to be captivated by the outside blue and yellow colors and the Art-Deco design of the courtyard. We especially loved to have such a view from the living-room !
Dining
Unfortunately we didn’t have a chance to enjoy food at Molitor during our tour ; however I have to say that both the place and the concept are impressive. The Michelin star awarded Chef Yannick Alléno developped this luxury restaurant like a meeting place, in the center of the building, where a new extra renowned Chef is invited each month to propose a custom fine menu mixing their both cuisine skills. Should I mention the future week-end brunch ?
Level of exigency
Because we didn’t stay more than few hours at Molitor I can’t give a complete opinion about the service quality ; however for our Spa treatment we have been very well catered and five-star standards were fully respected. Hey, what did you expect ?!
