For an early celebration of Summer, my partner and I decided to enjoy a luxury weekend somewhere in the beautiful Switzerland. We quickly selected La Reserve Geneve, not only because this hotel proposed five-star services but also because it’s located in a secluded area, away from the busy city center on the bank of Geneva Lake.
Located just 15-min drive from the airport, La Reserve Geneve offers an unparallel level of luxury in a magnificient park with trees, birds and views over Geneva Lake. That’s really a destination in itself, ideal for a romantic weekend, a staycation or even a health cure thanks to the several spa packages proposed. Let’s be honest: I was seduced from the very first seconds spent there :)
Design & Facilities
Purpose of La Reserve Geneve is to recreate an African lodge atmosphere, a kind of high-end location brilliantly integrated in nature and with a tribute to wild animals through art pieces.
First, on the outside you can find some low height buildings – maximum 2 floors – in ocher color, fully oriented to provide superb views over Geneva Lake and offering maximum of privacy. Green areas are very well maintained – lawn & trees are just stunning – which perfectly highlight the beauty of the outdoor pool and Summer Lodge restaurant, as well as the adjacent kids club “La Petite Reserve”.
The last outdoor part of La Reserve Geneve is actually a great, great point. Right on the lake’s bank there is a private pier, only for hotel’s guests, where a luxurious motoscafo is doing complimentary transfers to city centre every hour, upon reservation. That’s really a great advantage and it allows to see Geneva in a complete different way.
On the other hand, the interior design by Jacques Garcia reminds that lodge impression. The plenty of animals sculptures and patterns, as well as the tones of red color and low light setting are particularly astonishing and that makes this place totally unique. I love it!
The Spa Nescens is no exception to the animal touches. There are some surprising jellyfish wall lamps everywhere and the overall place looks like a submarine cave. The indoor heated pool was undoubtedly the climax of our Spa visit, as well as the Technogym equipment for our morning sport :)
Accommodation
Accommodations at La Reserve Geneve are absolutely amazing. There are only two floors on each building, so either you can stay on the upper floor with your own terrace not overlooked or you can book a lower floor room, like us, with sunloungers and direct access to the resort’s park.
Our Lake Suite #112 had a large living room with wooden floor, a beautiful library and guest toilets. Oh, I almost forgot: there is also a fuzzy purple carpet :) The overall is pretty harmonious, a mix of traditional & contemporary styles, with floor-to-ceiling windows and direct access to the terrace.
Bedroom and adjacent bathroom are in the continuity of the living room, with exactly same design. I particularly enjoyed to wake-up with such a great view in the morning, it was so relaxing! Feeling just out-of-world. I strongly recommend to book a room with lake view, that’s definitely a nice bonus.
Not to be missed, the entertainment system is fantastic: in addition to international TV channels, it proposes a large selection of complimentary on-demand movies in several languages. That’s quite rare, and that’s appreciable.
Dining
We experienced a romantic dinner at Le Loti restaurant – named after the famous writer-traveler Pierre Loti – that serves a combination of flavors from Japan and Latin America by chef Emmanuel Soares. The result is pretty interesting, unique for sure and a nice culinary trip. The “cracker prawns” I enjoyed, for instance, were delicious!
Le Loti also invites guests to L’Atelier Boeuf, a “Beef Workshop” with an impressive worldwide selection of beef. I went for the Black Angus sirloin, 300-day sweetcorn-fed wet aged and its salt crusted potato, while my partner tried the Holstein entrecote, a Baltic raised grass-fed 6week dry aged with a smoke potato. Wow, believe me we never ate such tender and tasty meat…
We also had dinner at Le Bar, a casual dining place with more or less the same menu as room service. We ordered truffle pasta and a Caesar salad and had a pleasant time surrounded by the cozy décor of the place.
Regarding buffet breakfast, it’s served at Le Loti restaurant with à-la-carte eggs and pancakes (included). The buffet itself is not that huge, but it does the job and honestly, for us it was more than enough. Taking the breakfast on the restaurant’s terrace every morning was a lovely moment!
Level of exigency
As a true institution in the city, La Reserve Geneve provides a top-notch service to its customers and that’s visible straight from the entrance. Some tall, stylish (and handsome..) doormen awaits guests and guide them to their destination, while receptionists and Clef d’Or concierges are kindly assisting anyone in need. I deeply thank them for all the help provided during our stay!
Restaurant waiters, housekeeping and motoscafo staff were also very professional. Oh, and I have to give a special mention to Spa Nescens team who were super friendly and did a great job to make my 90-min treatment a special moment.
Conclusion
La Reserve Geneve allowed us to escape from our busy life, to relax and to spend good time during a long weekend. Thanks to its magical location on the bank of Geneva Lake, it’s certainly one of the best option for a luxury retreat in Switzerland!
