Michel Reybier Hospitality opened recently La Réserve Eden au Lac, in Zürich. This little sister of the great La Réserve Genève offers unparalleled views of Zurich Lake in a yacht club-like building designed by Philippe Starck. This boutique hotel also hosts two surprising restaurants.
Settled right on Zurich Lake’s shore, La Réserve Eden au Lac is the latest baby from Michel Reybier Hospitality group. This boutique hotel composed of 40 rooms is located in a quiet area, just 10 minutes walking distance from the city center and main points of interests.
It represents a cocoon of luxury at human scale, a beautiful second home with a faultless design for any business or leisure traveler. On this point of view, it reminds me La Réserve Paris and its exclusiveness atmosphere.
Common areas
The building, an old hotel opened 100 years ago, has been completely redesigned by Philippe Starck around the values of La Réserve : excellence, authenticity and simplicity. Do not expect a huge complex, this is really a boutique hotel.
The style is not flamboyant, but more minimalist and refined with some luxury touches. In particular, leather and marble. Tones are neutral, it respects the history of the building and reinforces the secondary home feeling. I especially liked La Muña restaurant’s design, a true surprise with its chalet decoration.
There is no Spa at La Réserve Eden au Lac, however they still offer a gym room. It’s rather small but it does the job, machines are brand new and state-of-art in cardio-fitness.
Room
Room interior design fits the overall hotel style, with many leather and marble touches. It’s warm, and when you have the chance to enjoy a Lake view it becomes even magical. Some wall sections have been scraped by purpose so you can see the original orange bricks, a kind of New York style that I like a lot.
My Prestige Balcony Room was not large, all the interest consists in the stunning Lake view and the balcony access (perfect for breakfast). This soundproofed room allows to wake-up with the best possible view in Zurich!
The bathroom is particularly sophisticated, with a big standalone tub, black & white marble cabinet and wooden floor. Again, the Lake view from the window is priceless.
Dining
During my journey at La Réserve Eden au Lac I enjoyed lunch at Eden Kitchen & Bar, as well as Dinner at La Muña restaurant. Two different locations, two different styles.
Eden Kitchen & Bar is a casual dining restaurant, located at ground floor and proposing mainly Italian food by chef Marco Ortolani. I had a delicious burrata with seasonal vegetables and a cheeseburger (ok, not very Italian this one haha). Served quickly and perfectly cooked.
On the hotel’s last floor is nestled La Muña, a unique Peruvian-Japanese restaurant in a Swiss chalet decor! It is more fine-dining that Eden Kitchen, offering this interesting mixed cuisine by chef Miya Gunji. Lot of different fishes – blackcod, kingfish, red tuna, etc. – and different tastes – miso, truffle, caviar – with the purpose to order many and share. When weather is good, they open a large outdoor terrace overlooking Zurich Lake. Magical!
Service Quality
La Réserve Eden au Lac opened few months ago, they offer a pretty good service quality and it will be even better in the future when people and services get used to work together. Front Desk is discreet but efficient, as well as Room Service (in-room breakfast is a must-do!).
Conclusion
If you are looking for a discreet, exclusive boutique hotel with five-star standards to stay in Zurich, then La Réserve Eden au Lac is for you. Despite its newness, this place offers a good level of service quality and a luxurious atmosphere. Thanks to the low number of rooms, you will feel like at home. A luxury home.
