A Night At Trianon Palace Versailles, 10 Years Later

A Night At Trianon Palace Versailles, 10 Years Later

10 years after our last stay at Trianon Palace Versailles, I decided to come back to celebrate our union’s anniversary with my partner. I booked a one-night stay and we took the occasion to visit the amazing Chateau de Versailles and lunch at the great ore restaurant by Ducasse.

The COVID-19 situation is not easy to manage for everyone, and finding here and there a few escapes can definitely help. The Waldorf Astoria Versailles – Trianon Palace is a great opportunity to do so by mixing luxury hotel, culture and culinary experiences.

Trianon Palace main building

Indeed, the Chateau de Versailles is at 10-min walking distance from the hotel and there you can also enjoy a lunch – between two visits – at ore restaurant by Ducasse. A full day is required to complete this French heritage journey!

Common areas

Common areas didn’t change since our last visit in 2010. The main building, called Palace, is still in very good condition and its grandeur is just Wow. I also really like the iconic black & white tiling on ground floor! We have to thank the interior architect Fiona Thompson for that.

Walking through the ground floor corridor

Due to COVID-19 many places have a restricted access, like the indoor pool, the fitness center or the Spa Guerlain. All are available on a pre-booking basis, at least 24h in advance.

Room

I booked a King Deluxe Room and this is what we got ; despite my Hilton Honor Gold status. I was a bit disappointed but anyway I had to deal with it. The room #417 was large with view over the park of Versailles’ castle.

The white bathroom was very convenient, big bathtub and walk-in shower, and I particularly appreciated the Salvatore Ferragamo amenities.

Dining

Again, due to COVID-19 the restaurant Gordon Ramsay was not available during our stay. While we enjoyed breakfast at Trianon Palace, we decided to go out for lunch. And here, I strongly recommend to book ore restaurant by Ducasse, right inside the Chateau de Versailles offering a delicious and quite affordable menu.

Ore restaurant by Ducasse – Salmon with potatoes and balsamic sauce

For 80 EUR per person they propose a 3-course menu with VIP entrance to visit the castle. I enjoyed the salmon with balsamic sauce and the chocolate & caramel entremets, just perfect.

Service Quality

Well. Here I have to be honest, I didn’t recognize at Trianon Palace the five-star worldwide standards I am used to. Absent doormen, no reaction from Reception after a complaint, and on the overall just an average service. I would say that the hotel was quite without life and energy.

Let’s not be too negative, I think the hotel was understaff due to COVID-19 and we have to be comprehensive.

Conclusion

You certainly understood from the lines above that we didn’t have our best luxury hotel stay ever. I was not expecting to live a Ritz experience for sure, but that was still disappointing.

This being said, the hotel itself is really amazing and you get caught by a Wow effect when you arrive. Together with a visit of Versailles’ castle and lunch at Ducasse’s restaurant, you will enjoy a pleasant staycation or short weekend nearby Paris.
