Bangkok is an attractive city for luxury travel lovers, as five star hotels are quite affordable and offer very good services. W Bangkok, one of the most recent luxury hotel in that vibrant capital, is a perfect demonstration.
Settled in Silom district, W Bangkok is definitely one of the most trendy hotel of the city thanks to its design, events agenda and overall atmosphere. We decided to stay there for those reasons and the convenient location close to BTS – Bangkok’s skytrain – and city’s main points of interest, which allowed us to visit everything quite easily. And it was a very good decision!
Living
The hotel is set back from the street – it gives it a resort style – but cannot be missed thanks to the massive W engraved on the building facade, which turns into changing flashy colors at night.
Once inside, you feel like in most of W hotels worldwide: an avant-garde design with local touches, modern furnitures, pretty young staff and the sensation you are in a special place.
I really liked the 2nd floor and its terrace restaurant – The Kitchen Table – which was very pleasant for late afternoon drinks. The wet area on 6th floor is also not to be missed, especially its AWAY® Spa where I enjoyed a surprising Boxer Massage, inspired from Muay Thai – local boxing – physical preparation… Ready for fight!
Accommodation
We slept in a Spectacular Room that offered a large living space and a gorgeous king size bed. The overall room is an open-space style, with a opened bathroom offering a standalone bathtub, separate shower and furniture for toiletry bags.
Obviously the design follows the usual W atmosphere, with some local touches related to Muay Thai: two huge golden boxing gloves and an astonishing bedding set. I would recommend to ask for a room above 15th floor in order to enjoy a nice skyline view, otherwise you might be stuck between two buildings; our room was on 16th which was high enough.
Dining
Breakfast was served at The Kitchen Table on buffet mode, with eggs were cooked on demand and served at the table, which is quite rare for such a buffet breakfast and very appreciable. Waiters are definitely super efficient there!
On the other hand, we had the luck to enjoy a 8-course tasting menu at The House On Sathorn, the fine-dining venue of W Bangkok located in a restored historical building – the former Russian Embassy – and it was an incredible journey of flavors. The Turkish chef Fatih Tutak proposes a very fine cuisine mixing personal memories and Asian touches, in an unpretentious restaurant design; we were actually having dinner on a counter in front of kitchen clerks!
Level of exigency
Thailand is famous for its welcoming – the Land of a Thousand Smiles – and W Bangkok is no exception. Even if hotel staff are quite young, they are well trained and pretty proactive on customer needs. A huge thank you to the AWAY® Spa therapists who were always warm and friendly!
This hotel is a futuristic cocoon in the middle of a busy city with all luxury features you can expect from a 5* residence.
